Dear Friends,
Those of you who are friends or students of mine know that my heart has always been with shows that promote understanding and awareness of difficult topics.
Project Ele is devoted to that kind of theatre and our first show is The Other Place by Sharr White.
In The Other Place, “Juliana Smithton is a successful neurologist whose life seems to be coming unhinged. Her husband has filed for divorce, her daughter has eloped with a much older man and her own health is in jeopardy. But in this brilliantly crafted work, nothing is as it seems. Piece by piece, a mystery unfolds as fact blurs with fiction, past collides with present and the elusive truth about Juliana boils to the surface:”
Our show is dedicated to my sister-in-law Donna Kemp who passed away on January 29, 2014 from complications associated with Fast Progressive Frontotemporal Dementia. The net proceeds from our performances will benefit the Robinson’s Home for Independent Living in Spotsylvania.
The Robinson’s Home for Independent Living was founded by Margarete Robinson in 1994 to give the memory impaired one on one care in contrast to what Margie had seen working in understaffed assisted living businesses in the Fredericksburg area. Her genuine love and caring for her patients has been her calling card. Going on 23 years now, nurses and hospital staff that visit, all comment on the cleanliness of the facility and the level of care she provides for her patients. Funding the Robinson’s Home will allow them to help residents when they have difficulty paying their bills, daily necessities or for those special events like a trip to the mountains.
We are holding a go fund me campaign to cover the cost of producing the play. If we can raise the production costs such as rights, scripts, costumes, publicity costs, props, etc. through crowd funding, all ticket sales can be designated for the Robinson Home.
I would be eternally grateful if you can help us with this endeavor. Your donation regardless of size will be appreciated and put to use immediately. All donors will be listed in the program and on our website as Angels in the program.
Though Project Ele has long been a dream of mine, I know it would not be possible to provide support for our beneficiaries without the support of our community. I’m not sure what God’s plan for me or Project Ele is, but I do know that doors have been opening to make this particular show a reality. I will trust that He will provide the ways and the means to make a difference in the lives of the residents at Robinson Home, but also bring awareness to the heartbreaking symptoms that make the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s difficult for the patient and their family on a daily basis.
